We got married in the 2011 NYC Halloween Parade!
Rev. Roger Anthony Yolanda Mapes and Rev. Glen Morton Ganaway aka The Bug were married in an outdoor ceremony in SoHo Park, Manhattan NY at the line up point of the NYC Halloween Parade, October 31, 2011. They are the FIRST Gay Couple in the history of the parade to be married in it.
The Ceremony was officiated by Rev.Shawn Moninger of Unity Center of Practical Spirituality of Norwalk CT. The ceremony began with a Native American Blessing by Rev. Fenix Rizen of Wappinger Falls, NY, and proceeded with Rev. Shawn giving an Interfaith Celebration of the love between Yolanda and Bug. Yolanda and Bug recited vows they had written for each other, kissed and were showered with rose petals.
After the Ceremony, they were interviewed by local, national, and international TV and blogs. Yolanda, Bug, and Rev. Shawn then mounted a horse drawn carriage with a white horse and rode through the entire parade to throngs of cheering onlookers and photographers. The entire night was a dream come true!
