One Spirit’s Taize community meets once every month on the 4th Thursday evening at 6:30pm.
Nourish your Soul, raise your Voice and go within to find your Silence. Taize is a musical experience of God and includes simple chants, sacred readings and meditation. It incorporates well known and original chants, sacred readings from spiritual traditions across the world, and meditations that celebrate the common ways people honor the Divine. Originated in 1940 by Brother Roger, Taize is named after an international ecumenical community in Taize, Sane-et-Loire, Burgundy, France.
The next meetings: April 25th, May 23, June 20, July 18, August 22, September 26, October 24, November 21 and a special December Holiday party to be announced. All meetings take place at One Spirit Learning Alliance – 247 West 36th street 6th floor, 6:30pm -8pm
Our Interfaith Taize service was created and is led by Rev. Joelle Danant and Rev. Roger “Yolanda” Mapes.

JUDGES WILL CROWN BEST SINGER-ENTERTAINER
The sparkles will be flying this spring as the Metropolitan Room hosts its first “New York’s Next Top Drag Queen Contest." The six-week affair, running five Mondays from April 1 to May 6 (no show on April 8), will pit eight pre-selected drag queen artists who will be judged not by looks alone but by how well they sing and entertain.
Hosted by the incomparable Hedda Lettuce, the highly competitive competition will feature a parade of treats for the eyes, special guests, surprise guest judges and a mystery judge whose identity will hopefully be revealed at the contest’s over-the-top finale. The contest’s first Top Drag Queen, who will be showered with gifts and fawned over for years to come, will be held under a highly binding contract by the Metropolitan Room, during which time she will be forced to headline monthly shows from June to December produced by the club.
Competing bust to bust will be these promising entertainers, all of whom have been rigorously pre-screened:

The Battle of the Boroughs is back for its fourth year! We put out the call for our citywide talent quest and hundreds of New York City's best emerging artists answered — bands and ensembles of all genres, instrumentalists, vocalists and DJs.
The Greene Space team whittled the submissions down to 64 acts representing all five boroughs. Now, these artists will do battle (see schedule below) for a chance to represent their borough in The Ultimate Battle on June 21. They'll compete not only for bragging rights, but prizes that are a dream for any aspiring artist: a featured concert in The Greene Space; a guest artist appearance at the famed Apollo Theater's Amateur Night; a live video webcast of their performance; a professional, multi-track recording session; a Tekserve package, including iPads; a professional photo shoot; and a produced music video.
Award-winning WQXR host Terrance McKnight returns as Battle series emcee. He'll be joined by an esteemed panel of judges, including: Geri Allen, pianist; John Schaefer, host of Soundcheck; Wes Jackson, Executive Director of the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival; Christian McBride, bassist and composer; Nona Hendryx, singer, songwriter, and producer; Franco Iemmello, Capitol Records; Chris Bannon of WNYC; Mike Rinzel of WQXR; Steve Pageot, Grammy Award-winning composer; and Hakim Bell, producer and songwriter.
Thanks to all the incredible artists who submitted to this year's quest. The entries left us inspired and were a testament to the excellence, range, diversity and vibrancy of New York's arts and music scene. The huge pipe organ at Riverside Church in Manhattan howls two loud chords as the doors to the chapel open and the 2500 pairs of eyes of those seated in the pews turn to witness an unusual processional. You are invited to join us, too, as our One Spirit Interfaith Seminary and Interspiritual Counseling class of 2011 steps forward into their ministries at their commencement ceremony and celebration.
The processional is like none other seen. No matching, coordinated caps and gowns here. Each new graduate has chosen their unique expression of the sacred as they proceed down the aisle in the vestments that most clearly represent who they are. It is like a rainbow, the only effort at coordination being the ministerial stoles that hang from their necks. The colorful parade ensues. Each graduate carries a white rose, symbolizing the mystical truth at the core of each faith tradition, and representing each heart pouring itself out in love. The roses form a grand bouquet that stands at the center of the ceremonial space.A moving Interfaith/Interspiritual worship service unfolds, with blessings and prayers shared by clergy from many of the worlds great traditions.
